Recollections of Presqu'Ile, ca. 1895.

Memoir of life at Presqu'ile, the Denning family home on the Hudson, near Fishkill, and of social life with the Dennings' cousins, the Mortons, and with their neighbors, the Verplanck, DeWindt, and Newlin families. The title page dates the Recollections to 1895, and describes the text as "edited by Alice E. Browne" (a member of the Morton family). The text includes "Recollections by a member of the younger generation," as well as a tract entitled Heavenly Light, or how God sometimes manifests himself to his children, reprinting the autobiographical sketch of a recently deceased woman, presumably Van Rensselaer. The volume is extensively illustrated with engravings and lithographs, a map of New York in the eighteenth century, and 36 photographs by John Coates Browne, husband of Alice E. Browne, taken during the 1860s. Accompanied by a typed transcription of most of the text, made in 1947.
